World Class venues for the Oceania Championships

Penrith

Penrith is a thriving city that has retained many of its historic, rural and cultural roots. It is distinguished by its spectacular natural setting being at the foot of the world heritage listed Blue Mountains, on the tranquil Nepean Gorge, surrounded by many hectares of native bushland and wildlife, and having the perfect climate.

More details of what Penrith Valley has to offer, as well as accommodation options, can be found in the accomodation guide or on www.penrithvalley.com.au

Penrith is just 55 minutes drive from either Sydney Airport or the Central Business District and part of the Sydney metropolitan area.

Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC)

The Sydney International Regatta Centre is about 1 hour's drive from Sydny central business district. It is one of the best Sprint canoe kayak and rowing venues in the world averaging 50,000 visitors a month. The SIRC was the venue for the Sprint canoeing and rowing during the Sydney 2000 Games for which the course was purpose built.

The recent addition of start gates at the venue ensures the 200m sprint races are a world class event.

Penrith Whitewater Stadium (PWS)

Penrith Whitewater Stadium was the competition venue for the canoe/kayak slalom events during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. It is the only man-made whitewater course of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

Water in the channel flows at 14 cubic metres per second using 5 pumps. The channel itself is concrete, it is 320 metres long, drops 5.5 metres top to bottom and is constructed in a “U” shape.
A moveable obstacle system makes it possible to change the whitewater.

Penrith Whitewater Stadium offers Open Slalom training for National/ International paddlers and exclusive bookings. If you are planning on training at the stadium please contact the PenrithWhitewater directly with the following information:

  • Name of Team
  • Dates you will need training
  • Number of Athletes
  • Names of Athletes

Individual athletes and small groups will need to book and pay in advance for sessions. (Invoices for large teams may be available on request).
We expect there will be 6 to 8 Slalom sessions available per day in January & February, plus the option to paddling in Recreational paddling sessions with Rafts (upstream gates only).

1 hour Open Slalom Training = $22 per person per session
1 hour exclusive whitewater = $600 per hour
1 hour Recreational paddling = $18 per hour or $35 per day (upstream gates only)
